Types of Knowledge

Types of Knowledge
Explicit knowledge:
Can be articulated into formal language, including grammatical statements (words and numbers), mathematical expressions, specifications, manuals, etc. Explicit knowledge can be readily transmitted others. Also, it can easily be processed by a computer, transmitted electronically, or stored in databases.
Tacit knowledge:
Personal knowledge embedded in individual experience and involves intangible factors, such as personal beliefs, perspective, and the value system. Tacit knowledge is hard to articulate with formal language (hard, but not impossible). It contains subjective insights, intuitions, and hunches. Before tacit knowledge can be communicated, it must be converted into words, models, or numbers that can be understand. In addition, there are two dimensions to tacit knowledge:
Technical Dimension (procedural):
This encompasses the kind of informal and skills often captured in the term know-how. For example, a craftsperson develops a wealth of expertise after years of experience. But a craftsperson often has difficulty articulating the technical or scientific principles of his or her craft. Highly subjective and personal insights, intuitions, hunches and inspirations derived from bodily experience fall into this dimension.
Cognitive Dimension:
This consists of beliefs, perceptions, ideals, values, emotions and mental models so ingrained in us that we take them for granted. Though they cannot be articulated very easily, this dimension of tacit knowledge shapes the way we perceive the world around us.
Socialization:
From tacit to tacit -- Sharing experiences to create tacit knowledge, such as shared mental models and technical skills. This also includes observation, imitation, and practice. However, "experience" is the key, which his why the mere "transfer of information" often makes little sense to the receiver.
From explicit to tacit -- Embodying explicit knowledge into tacit knowledge. Closely related to "learning by doing." Normally, knowledge is verbalized or diagrammed into documents or oral stories.
Externalization:
From tacit to explicit -- The quintessential process of articulating tacit knowledge into explicit concepts through metaphors, analogies, concepts, hypothesis, or models. Note that when we conceptualize an image, we express its essence mostly in language.
Combination:
From explicit to explicit -- A process of systemizing concepts into a knowledge system. Individuals exchange and combine knowledge through media, such as documents, meetings, and conversations. Information is reconfigured by such means as sorting, combining, and categorizing. Formal education and many training programs work this way.

Life thinking paper

Honestly speaking the whole concept of writing a Life thinking paper was not very attractive. Just another burden during sweet winter vacations. However, I was proved completely wrong. Instead of a burden the ltp acted as a catalyst for me to seriously think about shaping my future path.

Although I am still a strong believer of one's written destiny, some new ideas opened up as alternative paths. Hopefully this experience will add to my organization for the future. Rest I leave it to the Great Lord to decide for me.

Now it is considered offensive. I believe the race is soon to take another step forward, and that the coming man is to consider smoking as offensive as chewing was formally considered. As it is practically abandoned now, so I believe smoking will be.Third--Having entered upon work, continue in that line of work. Fight it out on that line (except in extreme cases), for it matters little what avenue a young man finds first. Success can be attained in any branch of human labor. There is always room at the top in every pursuit. Concentrate all your thought and energy upon the performance of your duties. Put all your eggs into one basket and then watch that basket, do not scatter your shot. The man who is director in a half dozen railroads and three or four manufacturing companies, or who tries at one and the same time to work a farm, a factory, a line of street cars, a political party and a store, rarely amounts to much. Overcome the Complicated LTP

I have found it very difficult task to decide my career. I realized this difficulty, when Mr. Mannan assigned us to write "Life Thinking Paper". So, to overcome this trouble, I googled about career decision making and found a very useful article about it which helped me very much to write an realistic mission statement also.

So, I want to share this useful instructions with my all class fellows. I hope, it will make your LTP less complicated.

Introduction

Effective career decision-making requires a lot of work and energy, but is necessary to maximize the likelihood of being satisfied with your career (or college major) choice. People tend to spend a lot of time deciding where they will live, what car they will buy, or where they will vacation but spend less time on determining what career best fits them in terms of their values, interests, personality, and skills. Thus, this segment will seek to assist you in identifying what questions you need to ask yourself (and others), as well as where to go to learn more about particular careers or college majors.

WHAT CAREER IS BEST FOR ME?

There are several variables that influence how satisfied you will be in a particular career (VIPS):

  1. VALUES – What needs do you want your career to meet? What needs must it meet? Thus, how important is power, security, service to others, socializing, interest, creativity, adventure, opportunities for advancement? Do you want to work with your hands or your mind? Do you want to work alone or with others? Do you want to have the authority to influence and persuade others? Do you like routine work or prefer a variety of tasks? Do you need flexibility in your work schedule or are you okay with regular hours? Try to identify your most important and least important values. How can they be met by the career(s) you are currently considering?
  2. INTERESTS – What do you like to do? What are your hobbies? What do you like to read about, or talk about with others? Do you like machines, tools, science, theories, data, self-expression, art appreciation, people, human welfare, business, politics, leadership, organization, data, finance?
  3. PERSONALITY – What words describe you? Do you prefer to spend time with others or by yourself? Do you prefer making decisions after gathering lots of information and facts, or do you prefer to rely on your own internal processes and evaluations? Do you like to fix things, teach, create, organize, persuade, or investigate?
  4. SKILLS – What are you great at? Good at? Okay at? Not so good at? How is your physical coordination, math, writing, analysis, creativity, listening, understanding, verbal ability, ability to motivate and direct others, record keeping, and attention to detail?

Sometimes it is difficult to determine/clarify these areas of information. Thus, you may benefit from talking with a counselor, friends/family members who know you well and who are open to you taking a "curious", exploratory approach to career/major decision-making. Also, counselors (i.e., at the Counseling Center, Peer Counselors, or Career Resource Center) can sometimes provide you with various self-report inventories that help you identify, organize, and evaluate your values, interests, personality, and skills.

Where to Learn More About Particular Careers/Majors

Once you have identified the aforementioned intrapersonal information (i.e., VIPS), it is important to begin gathering information about careers that you have an initial interest. Also, obtain information on those careers that you may not be interested in but do not know enough about before discarding them as a possibility. In other words, before deciding against a career, be sure you have (and can list) specific reasons why you would not pursue it other than relying on a "hunch" or "intuition" (or someone else’s opinion). Places or people who can assist you in this process include:

  • Peer Counseling Program
  • Career Resource Center
  • Academic Advisors
  • Instructors
  • Teaching Assistants/Graduate Students

Community Services

  • Public Libraries
  • Search Engines on the Internet

Summary

Career exploration can be a fun, exciting time. However, the extent of its helpfulness is limited by the amount of time, energy and thought you are able/willing to invest in it. There are a multitude of resources (i.e.,. on campus and in the community) that can assist you with identifying and meeting some of your career goals, but it is up to you to begin the process. Why not begin today?

recent statistics shows that 50 percent ov those who uses steroid are not from sports feild.if v go back a decade than steroids were only limited to sports specially wresling and body building but now days it has b cum like just another medicen and u can buy it easily on net though it is illegal to use medium like internet for sale ov steroids.
in 2006 a child named TYLOR HOOD a british national committed sucide due to his addiction to steroids.he used to b a bsaeball player and just to enhance his running ability he started using steroids without knowing its adverse side effects.when an investigating team talked to hood's parents thay told that our kid was brillinant but from last six months v noticed sumthing abnormal in his behaviour he b cum short tempered and started gaining weight.he never confessd ov having steriods but later as he died his parents were shocked to discover that he used steroids.
there are many reasons that cum up due to which ppl now days use steroids one ov the major reason that was told in the report is that earlier the cartoon figures had normal body structures but now days v c that mostly cartoon figures are wrestlers with huge body.this compells teenagers to use steroids and to get build like those figuers. when one ov the wrestrer and a football player was questioned on srteroids they answered that our audience that is our consumer demands this thing from us and there is only one way to achive it in short time that is having steroids b cuz our profession is for a very shot period and v have to do it all in this short span ov time.
steroids are used for many purposes for instance buliding muscles,reducing weight,enhancing copmlexion,increasing enegry levels etc.but all the harmfull side effects that steroids can have are still not discovered.

The Transnational Company

The products are services may b the same, but the structure is fundamentally different. In a transnational company there is only one economic unit, the world. Selling, servicing, research, finance, marketing, pricing, and management are conducted in contemplation of the world market. One of the America’s leading engineering companies, for instance, make one critical part for all its forty-three plants worldwide in one location outside of Antwerp, Belgium and nothing else. It has organized product development for the entire world in three places and quality control in four. For this company, national boundaries have largely become irrelevant.
The transnational company is not totally beyond the control of national governments. It must adapt to them. But these adaptations are expectation to policies and practices decide on for worldwide markets and technologies. Successful transnational company see themselves as separate, non national entities. This self –perception is evidenced by something unthinkable a few decades ago; a transnational top management.

How to be calm in a stressfull situation











Identify the cause of your stress. Is your heart pounding because that idiot just cut you off on the freeway, or is it because of that presentation you have to give to your boss this afternoon? Think for a moment and try to figure out what’s really bothering you.
Choose your response. Even if you’re powerless to change the source of your stress, you have the power to choose how you’ll respond to it. The appropriate response to stress should depend on what’s causing it: you can either shake off your stress (ignore it and let it go immediately) or face it head-on. In order to choose your response, ask yourself some questions.
Does it matter

Yeah, it’s all small stuff, but some stuff is smaller than others. Consider how long the source of stress will affect you. That idiot driver will be gone in a moment if you just let him keep speeding down the road, but the death of a loved one may affect you for years.
How much control do you have over the situation?

You can’t control the rain that’s ruining your wedding, but you can control how well you do on your algebra exam tomorrow.
Is the source of stress in the past, present, or future?

You can’t change the past, but you can respond to the present and prepare for the future. Let your past troubles fade.
Shake it all off. If a situation is beyond your control, or if it just isn’t that important, stop worrying about it. Easier said than done? Just do it.
Inhale deeply through your nose.

In your mind, count to five seconds, and then exhale slowly through your mouth, for another five seconds. Repeat this breathing pattern until you feel comfortable with it.
Think about something else.

Get your mind off the stress by thinking about something that makes you happy, such as your kids or spouse (provided they’re not the cause of the current stress), or by concentrating about the things you have planned for the day.
Visualize relaxing things,

such as a deserted island or a country road. Close your eyes and try to picture even minor details about the imaginary place, and you can put yourself in that situation instead of the one you’re in.
Get away from the cause of the stress.

If you can physically escape the stress trigger, do so. Leave the room or pull off the road for a moment to put things in perspective.
Get some exercise.

Whether you go for a run, do calisthenics, do yoga, or lift weights, 10-20 minutes of physical exercise every day can relax you even when "nothing can". Getting plenty of exercise also helps you respond better to stress in the long run.
Face your stress source head-on when you're ready.

Getting stressed is not going to resolve the situation. Sitting around worrying is a good way to procrastinate, but procrastinating will only prolong or intensify the stress. Facing your stress head-on is really just a way to shake off a bad situation that you cannot or should not ignore. If you can change the outcome of a situation that matters to you, the quickest way to overcome that fear or to empower yourself is to take action as quickly as possible. Once you’ve resolved the underlying problem, you can shake off the stress because it no longer matters. The steps below will help you. If you feel paralyzed, use the steps above to relax and temporarily distance yourself from the situation just long enough to be able to see it clearly.
Make a plan

Sometimes you can resolve a stressful situation right away with one action, but often you’ll need several steps, perhaps over a long period. Write out a plan with attainable goals and a time line for reaching those goals. Additionally, many stressful situations are avoidable. If you prepare ahead of time for important events and make contingency plans, you may not have to cope with as much stress later. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Take one step at a time.

A complex problem can be overwhelming, even when you’ve got your plan mapped out, but remember: the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Just focus on one small goal at a time.
Be realistic.

If you continue to experience stress because no matter how hard you try you can’t take the steps quickly enough, you probably haven’t set realistic goals. In a culture that values a can-do attitude, it can be hard to accept that sometimes you can’t do something, at least not within a given period of time. If that’s the case, revise your time line or lower your expectations. If you can’t do that, the situation qualifies as one which you can’t control. Learn from your experience, but let it go.

Wastage of Resources

As we all knw, the resources and utilities like gas, water and electricity are greatly misused in our country.
One of the main reasons for the shortage of electricity is its wastage. Big buildings are usually covered wit fancy lights on special occasions. In my opinion if people really want their buildings to look nice, they should cover them with reflectors and use one light to make them shine. Most people leave TV sets, computers and other appliances on standby mode; rather thy should always switch them off when not in use.
Water leakage from main supply lines is a common occurrence in our country which leads to water shortage. The wastage of gas is caused by leakage from gas pipes, people also leave their stoves and geysers on for nothing.
Therfor, all of us should promise ourselves that from now onward we wil not waste our country’s resources so tht we can live a problem free life.

Now a days it's frequently asked questions that who should be the leader of Pakistan. Some said that Musharaf was good; most of us thought that a chance should be given to Imran Khan, some are in the favor of Nawaz Sharif. But Most of us used to blame the leaders tht they should be change.

Its not the matter with us only, but if u will read the history of Nations u will come to know the same nature of Nations in downfall. That we were very good but America has done this this with us, but Hindus had played a game with us. It's the nature of declining nations that instead of correcting themselves they blame others. U know what Iqbal said, ' shikwa mujhe tujh se hai Europe se nahi'. And i think that we are in the same situation.

In 1975, it was said by one of the minister/leader (I am not conform) of Indonesia, he said we translate the poetry of ur Iqbal in our native language, we started and succeed in our independence campaign. He said we understand ur poet but u don’t understand him. Yes, try to read the stories of our ancestors instead of reading romantic stories and novels. This land and sky had seen many sacrificed people and they are seeing us also, that what Pakistanis are doing now.

We as a Nation are dead and no one can give life to dead nation. Even Quaid may come back again, I Bet. Our leaders are not leading at their own but Allah has pointed them on us as our punishment. U might have heard tht 'jis trha ki rooh us trha k farishtay. And its also the saying of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ( Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) that " as the people of the nation are, so r the leaders". Have I ever think that wht iam contributing to Pakistan, what Iam doing. U may noticed, when Punjab police were corrupt we all abused them now they are not but ppl again abuse them. While driving why we don’t follow the signals, why don’t we move in a Que.? I think again the answer will be 'due to the leaders'. We don’t do correctly the things which are controllable by us then how can we manage uncontrollable. This is all because we don't want to work.
Actually every individual Pakistani is corrupt. Have u ever think that from where these leaders comes from. Means, they all are Pakistani they are not from outside. And u know who are the future leaders u and I or might be from our class fellows. All leaders will be a liar because we are liar, they all will be a cheater, because we r cheater.

So every leader will do the same, if we will not change ourselves. So my friends I think that instead of changing them I should try to change myself.

True authority is born from respect for the good character and trustworthiness of the person who leads.
2. A good leader is enthusiastic about their work or cause and also about their role as leader.
People will respond more openly to a person of passion and dedication. Leaders need to be able to be a source of inspiration, and be a motivator towards the required action or cause. Although the responsibilities and roles of a leader may be different, the leader needs to be seen to be part of the team working towards the goal. This kind of leader will not be afraid to roll up their sleeves and get dirty.
3. A good leader is confident. In order to lead and set direction a leader needs to appear confident as a person and in the leadership role.
Such a person inspires confidence in others and draws out the trust and best efforts of the team to complete the task well. A leader who conveys confidence towards the proposed objective inspires the best effort from team members.
4. A leader also needs to function in an orderly and purposeful manner in situations of uncertainty.
People look to the leader during times of uncertainty and unfamiliarity and find reassurance and security when the leader portrays confidence and a positive demeanor.
5. Good leaders are tolerant of ambiguity and remain calm
composed and steadfast to the main purpose. Storms, emotions, and crises come and go and a good leader takes these as part of the journey and keeps a cool head.
6. A good leader, as well as keeping the main goal in focus, is able to think analytically.
Not only does a good leader view a situation as a whole, but is able to break it down into sub parts for closer inspection. While keeping the goal in view, a good leader can break it down into manageable steps and make progress towards it.

A good leader is committed to excellence.
Second best does not lead to success. The good leader not only maintains high standards, but also is proactive in raising the bar in order to achieve excellence in all areas.

Life is something, which cannot be defined no single definition of life has yet been possible. We can express the philosophy of life by comparing with other gifts of nature.
If we give a general look it has four letters i-e L, I, F, E. But if you go deep into it, you find the answer to every question you might asked yourself while sitting alone for some time.
Life is a stage. People come up on the stage to perform their roles on the stage are replaced. People performing their roles on stage leave memories in other’s heart which are remembered for ever. Life is a vast sky with billions of stars. SOCIAL MIRROR THEORY

'Social mirror theory' holds that we cannot have mirrors in the mind unless there are mirrors in society. The idea was first proposed by Wilhelm Dilthey (1883-1911: in Turner, 1982).

Dilthey argued that it is 'thought's work' to draw out the structural system or meaning implicit in every distinguishable unit of experience (Erlebnis), and that the process of drawing out meaning is not complete until it has been expressed in per formative terms .

As few months back Toyota launched the new Toyota Corolla Altis Cruisetronic in Pakistan. I believe that you must have seen it in your vicinity or in adverts by now. Launching a new car in Pakistan; where sales of new cars have been dropped by 50% over the last year is indeed, a risky proposition. But the new Corolla Altis Cruisetronic has raised a few eyebrows.

Its launch is done with great deal of hype. The whole campaign was comprised to promote the car superior, in terms of satisfying customer wants and demands better than competitors, in their words “an icon”.

“The idea behind the campaign was to attract the mobile 25-35 age segment” says Munawar Ahmed, Account Director Manhattan International Limited (MIL). He further explained that the focus of the campaign was to push the idea of “be an icon”, but the lack of an icon promoting the car was a change for a market, because everything in our market form cooking oil to real estate projects are sold with the support of celebrities. Ahmed clarified that the people involved in the campaign, soon realized that “there was no celebrity that could match this car, the car itself is so strong.” This confidence was based on the new exciting features of Altis Cruisetronic which are cruise control, switchtronic, electronic power steering, leather interior and sunroof (the ad above highlights these features). The advertising was equally distributed among the print and electronic media.

But despite of all this, the question is still to be answered that whether the idea “be an icon” and the new features will inspire the target segment to buy the car, because Altis Cruisetronic costs 1.7 million rupees; whereas its recently launched models Xli , Gli and 2.0D cost lower than this. Some dealers say that a large number of buyers key is the shape of the car. Therefore they will buy Xli ,Gli and 2.0D to satisfy their needs associated to Corolla brand name.

But Ahmed disagrees saying, “The person who wants to buy Altis Cruisetronic will not buy a Xli ,Gli or 2.0D. He will stay within his category; his budget is also set accordingly, while the Xli and Gli customers with 1.2 to 1.3 million rupees budget will stay within in that category. Ahmed adds more, that because luxury cars have become expensive, therefore customers who want to buy luxury cars and are unable to do so anymore, and that is where Altis Cruisetronic comes in by offering them the features of a luxury car at a much lower price.

Ahmed admits that there would be some effect with the launch of Xli ,Gli and 2.0D, but “the effect will not be so great”. At the end Ahmed confidently says that “Whosoever wants to buy the best of the best will buy the Altis Cruisetronic. The remaining will buy Xli, Gli or 2.0D but will still fall into the corolla category.”

Hi Guys! Here is something that can be helpful in achieving your target of being a SUCCESSFUL PERSON. While its up to you that how you define SUCCESS for yourself....

1. Start by clarifying the dream. Dream it big, dream it often, and always in living color! Imagine the problems, the benefits, the skills you'll need and the people you'll meet along the way. Dream often and dream the details.

2. Create a plan. What will your dream cost? How will it work? How long will it take? Who will help you get there? How will you solve the challenges, over-come the obstacles, and become the person you'll need to become to reach your goal?

3. Reach out. We live in an amazing time. You can write, phone, fax or email just about anyone on earth! Consult with experts. Talk to people who have achieved whatever you want to achieve. Truly successful people are usually delighted to show others the way. Make the calls.

4. Tell others. There is no substitute for talking about your dreams. Saying the words makes them powerful. Talk about where you want to go, what you want to do, and who you will become. And as a benefit, you'll discover people who will help you along the way.

5. Take action! No matter what your dream, there is a step you can take today. If you are serious, there is someone you can call or write. There is a book you can read, or some action that will start you on the path. Steven Spielberg snuck into movie lots as a
teenager, just to look around. What action will you take today?

6. Set Deadlines. Set Deadlines for each of your small/big, personal/official, long-term/short-term task AND always try to finish the task by that deadline.

7. Eliminate distractions. This is a tough one, and a favorite excuse of the "almost successful". Successful people eliminate the distractions of life. Combine errands, delegate tasks, hire people to do the things you don't want to do. Simplify your life and never waste time. Turn off TV (and some time also computer).

8. Invest wisely. Successful people understand that their dreams will require an investment of time or money or energy and they are prepared to pay the price. Whatever your dream, it will require some risk, and some investment. Make the investment.

9. Create room for success. All of us are doing something every moment of every day, and making your dreams come true will require some adjustments. Whether it's adjusting your schedule, your finances, or your use of energy, you'll have to make room for success.

10. Have a mentor/coach. Whether you hire a professional coach or find a local expert, or a Cyber friend. Successful people have coaches. There are very few "self made" successes! We all need someone to believe in us, someone to encourage, challenge and applaud us. Develop a close, working relationship with a coach who can show you the way to your dreams!

Success is always the result of our best efforts. It's the result of investing time, energy, careful thought, and hard work. It's the result of taking action, getting started, making mistakes, learning from them and trying again. There is simply no better time to start than today.... Stephen R. Covey shows how you can become a principle-centered leader, and how you can use principle-centered leadership philosophies to more effectively manage people. Principle-centered power is created when the values of the follower and leader overlap. Control is apparent, but it is not external; it is self-control. It elicits a willingness to risk doing the right things because they are valued and modelled by the leader. People follow the leader because of who he or she is. This book is full of lists, charts, diagrams and anecdotal examples to help the reader fully comprehend the ideas contained within. The cover of the book has the famous quote, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." This quote encapsulates the intentions of the book. Covey wants to teach you how to fish. And he wants you to know it’s not as simple as picking a lure and casting. Good fishermen learn through years of applying their skills. Managers become good managers through years of applying principle-centered leadership. getAbstract recommends the book to managers and executives at all levels.

GOOD AND BAD LEADERS

We made leaders by our choice. We know that they are the partial part of the country. They implement the people decisions. A good people may not be able to make a bad leader good but a good leader can contribute to the improvement of his people political culture. Anyone wishing to succeed as leader should be intelligent, energetic, decisive, determined, an effective communicator and ambitious. He will be reckoned a good leader if he is also willing to practice self denial and place the public interest above personal and private interests. One may have some of these characteristics (energy, determination, communication skills) and end up as a bad leader if he is rigid, intemperate, callous, corrupt and incompetent.
I am sorry to say that after independence 1947, Pakistan was unable to found a suitable leader for their selves. Jinnah was the only leader who has the leadership traits, effective communicator, and excellent debater. He is the model for others to follow but we know that none has even approximated his level of attainment. According o Peter Ducker,
“LEADERSHIP IS DOING THE RIGHT THINGS”
And Jinnah has all the aforementioned qualities of a good leader. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was brilliant, a fantastic and a very effective mass leader, but he was lusty of personal power, arrogant, and impulsive. Some of his policy choices, expressing his understanding of the public interest were misconceived and ended up hurting the country.
A good people may not be able to make a bad leader good but I believe a good leader can, by the force of his example, contribute to the improvements of his people’s political culture. Are any of our present leaders capable of making such a contribution?

Mr. Welch was born in Salem in 1935. Banking Crisis
When a commercial bank suffers a sudden rush of withdrawals by depositors, this is called a bank run. Since banks lend out most of the cash they receive in deposits it is difficult for them to quickly pay back all deposits if these are suddenly demanded, so a run may leave the bank in bankruptcy causing many depositors to lose their savings unless they are covered by deposit insurance. A situation in which bank runs are widespread is called a banking panic

If there is a bubble, there is also a risk of a crash in asset prices: market participants will go on buying only as long as they expect others to buy, and when many decide to sell the price will fall. However, it is difficult to tell in practice whether an asset's price actually equals its fundamental value, so it is hard to detect bubbles reliably. Some economists insist that bubbles never or almost never occur.

Yes, I think Bill is a great leader. There are many aspects to him that make him a great leader. One thing that stood out to me was his ability to know exactly what was happening in every product group in Redmond, who was responsible for what and why a certain delay occurred etc.


I actually worked for Microsoft between 1993 & 2000 and met him a couple of times....one time we were standing out the back of the old North Ryde Office in a small group, having a quiet beer and chatting with Bill for about an hour. It was inspiring and fascinating. Overall though, he is a down to earth kind of guy. As an anecdotal story to show that Bill is a normal kind of guy, back in my time at Microsoft, one of the old timers told me of a funny story about Bill. When the company was much smaller (late 80's), one of Bill's visits to Australia culminated in them going on a pub crawl around Manly.


Apparently, Bill had had too much to drink and started giving a bit of lip to a bouncer at Manly Rugby Club, and they ended up having to drag him away before the bouncer punched him.

Group: Two or more people who interact to accomplish individual or mutual goals.
Reference groups: Direct or indirect points of compression or reference in forming a person’s attitudes or behavior.
