Subway taps Coca-Cola as its fountain-drink supplier
Nation's Restaurant News,
MILFORD, CONN. -- Subway Restaurants named Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. as its exclusive supplier of fountain drinks for all of the quick-service sandwich chain's outlets worldwide.
Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo Inc. previously held about 85 percent of Subway's fountain business, while Coca-Cola had the remaining 15 percent. The new deal will take effect in 2005.
Subway, which is owned by Doctor's Associates Inc., operates more than 20,000 restaurants in 73 countries around the globe.
Subway said the switch from Pepsi to Coca-Cola followed a one-year evaluation and negotiation process in which it was determined that Coke could help the sandwich chain with marketing, innovation and global distribution.
